Upholstery cleaning — your questions answered

From sofas to mattresses — everything about refreshing your fabric furniture

Breathe new life into your furniture

Prices vary based on item size, fabric type, and cleaning method. A single armchair typically costs £35–£55. A two-seater sofa: £55–£80. A three-seater sofa: £70–£110. A large corner sofa or sectional: £100–£180. Mattresses: £40–£70. Adding stain protection treatment costs an extra £15–£30 per item. Standard synthetic fabrics dry in 3–6 hours. Wool or wool-blend upholstery takes longer — 4–8 hours due to natural fibre absorption. Mattresses require the most time: 12–24 hours because of their thickness and density. Factors affecting drying: room temperature, humidity, airflow, and fabric density. To speed things up, open windows, run a fan or dehumidifier, and avoid sitting on the furniture until fully dry. We can deploy professional air movers on request to cut drying time by up to 50%.

Highly effective. Our hot water extraction method removes embedded dirt, food crumbs, drink spills, pet stains, and odours that regular vacuuming misses. It also eliminates 99% of dust mites, pollen, mould spores, and bacteria trapped deep in fabric fibres. Results are dramatic: colours appear brighter, textures feel softer, and musty smells disappear. For heavily soiled items, we pre-treat stains with specialised solutions. While set-in stains may not vanish completely, we consistently achieve significant improvement (typically 80–95% stain removal).

We clean a wide range of upholstered items: sofas (all sizes including corner and modular), armchairs, dining chairs, footstools, ottomans, headboards, mattresses, cushions, and curtains/drapes. We also clean car interiors (seats, carpets, headliners) and campervan upholstery. For delicate antique furniture or non-removable covers, we use gentler dry-cleaning methods. Not sure if we can clean your item? Send us a photo and we'll advise. Common exceptions: velvet that isn't water-safe, some suedes, and heavily worn items.

Fabric upholstery cleaning uses hot water extraction (steam cleaning) with specialised detergents to flush out dirt, then high-suction extraction to remove moisture. This works for cotton, linen, polyester, wool, and most blends. Leather cleaning is entirely different: we use a pH-balanced foam cleaner that's gently massaged into the surface with a soft brush, then wiped away. Finally, we apply a leather conditioner/rejuvenator to restore natural oils, prevent cracking, and add a protective layer. Leather takes 1–2 hours to dry and should not be steam cleaned.

First, we inspect the leather for damage, wear, or colour fading. Then we test a hidden patch to ensure the cleaner won't affect colour. Next, we apply a foam leather cleaner evenly across the surface — it absorbs dirt in minutes. We gently agitate with a soft brush to lift grime from creases, then wipe clean with a cotton cloth. Finally, we apply a leather rejuvenator/conditioner to restore moisture and flexibility, preventing cracks and fading. This final step takes 1–2 hours to dry completely. The result is soft, supple, and protected leather.

Yes — mattress cleaning is one of our most popular services. We remove sweat stains, body oils, dust mites, dead skin cells, and allergens. The process uses low-moisture encapsulation or dry compound methods to minimise water usage because mattresses are thick and slow to dry. Drying time is 12–24 hours. We strongly recommend booking this service in the morning and leaving windows open or using a dehumidifier. For memory foam or latex mattresses, we use an even drier method. We also offer mattress protector fitting after cleaning.

Absolutely. We use eco-friendly, non-toxic detergents that are biodegradable and free from harsh chemicals like bleach, ammonia, and phosphates. They meet UK/EU safety standards for domestic use. However, if you or a family member has severe chemical sensitivities, asthma, or allergies, please inform us when booking. We'll use our hypoallergenic, fragrance-free solution instead. While our products are safe, we still recommend keeping children and pets off freshly cleaned upholstery until fully dry (as a precaution against slip hazards, not chemical risk).

Accidents are extremely rare — we've cleaned thousands of items without issue. However, our service is fully insured with public liability coverage up to £1 million. If damage occurs (e.g., colour fading, shrinkage, fabric tearing despite correct procedures), we will assess the claim and compensate you accordingly. Before starting, we always test a hidden area for colourfastness and fabric stability. We also ask about any pre-existing damage (stains, weak seams, fading) and note it on our pre-cleaning checklist to avoid disputes.

We successfully remove most common stains: coffee, tea, wine, juice, food grease, mud, and many pet accidents. However, no legitimate company can guarantee 100% removal of every stain — especially old, set-in, or chemically altered stains (e.g., bleach spots, dye transfers, permanent marker). What we guarantee: we'll use the most effective professional techniques available, and we won't stop until we've achieved the best possible result. If a stain persists despite our best efforts, we'll be honest and explain why. We don't charge extra for stain treatment attempts.

Yes — odour removal is a core part of our service. Our hot water extraction flushes out bacteria and organic material that cause bad smells. For stubborn pet urine odours, we use an enzymatic neutraliser that breaks down uric acid crystals (the source of lingering smells even after DIY cleaning). For cigarette smoke, we add a deodorising booster to the rinse cycle. Musty basement smells often require a sanitising treatment. We don't just mask odours with perfumes — we eliminate the source. For severe cases, a second treatment may be recommended.

For average households, every 12–24 months is sufficient. However, if you have children, pets, allergies, or heavy use (daily sitting, dining on sofas), consider every 6–12 months. Light-coloured fabrics show dirt faster and benefit from annual cleaning. Signs it's time: visible darkening on armrests and headrests, lingering odours, increased allergy symptoms, or stains that won't vacuum out. Regular cleaning extends upholstery life by 3–5 years by removing abrasive dirt that wears down fabric fibres. We offer reminder services and multi-year plans.

Please clear the area around your furniture — move small items (lamps, cushions, ornaments) away. Remove any items from sofa pockets (remotes, toys, pens). Vacuum the upholstery yourself beforehand? It helps but isn't necessary (we'll vacuum as part of our process). For leather, simply wipe off surface dust. If there are specific stains you want us to focus on, point them out when we arrive. For mattresses, strip off all bedding. That's it — we bring everything else. Please ensure our technician has access to water and electricity.

Highly recommended, especially for light-coloured fabric, homes with children/pets, or expensive furniture. Our fabric protector bonds to each fibre, creating an invisible barrier that makes spills bead up rather than soak in. You get a precious 10–15 minutes to blot up messes before they become stains. One application lasts 12–18 months and doesn't affect fabric feel or breathability. The cost is minimal compared to replacing stained furniture. Protection is applied after cleaning and requires no extra drying time. Add it when booking for a discounted rate.
